Default Re: Attaching a 888 to legacy

I found the legacy port and 888/24's a little flakey. I can get them to work FAIRLY consistently by powering them up as follows:

1. Boot computer with HD (Sync i/o & 192's) hardware OFF
2. Turn on 888/24(s) and let them boot completely
3. Turn on HD hardware
4. Boot PT

Must have the 888/24 configured and hanging off the legacy port. Must have the WC out from a 192 into the WC in of the 888/24.

Give it a try. That should get you there.

Oh, make sure your i/o setup is correct.

Keep in mind the legacy stuff does not work with sessions greater than 48k...

If the 192 is the same as the 96, then the legacy port addresses IOs 17-24. 9-16 would be the 192's digital or optional analogue IO. I recently had an issue using a 888 via the legacy port of my 96, updating the 96's firmware solved it for me.
hope it helps

Yeah!...you have to boot the legacy hardware first and wait a couple of seconds before booting the 192/96io.....because they boot faster than the legacy stuff....otherwise they wont sync.

I had the same problem with my 882s but now everything works great (when I remember to NOT power them up together!! )

Man, I must have dead 888's or something, no matter what I try, all configurations neither kicks on.

I would think that at the very least, when I power up the 192, the 888 should kick to 48k as that's what the clock is set to....

The only thing the 888 does is kick to "Slave" mode, other than that, nothing...

Yes there is. I just don't know precicely how it's done. But here are few options you could try.

1)
If it can output 1x and 256x clocks simultaneously then just set the BB as clock master and connect it to all interfaces (HD and legacy).

2)
If it only outputs one kind of clock, then use your HD interface as clock master, connect its ext clock to BB clock ref input and then BB clock outputs to legacy interfaces.

I give up. These things won't work no matter what I do. I've tried every configuration I can think of, and some that are just plain silly.

I must have bum 888's, not sure how that could happen, but the f####ing things just won't work. Time to throw them in the scrap pile...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
