Default LFD Large Format Display ?

Has anyone used a LFD Large Format Display for pro tools hd editing?

I am thinking about monitor upgrades, and so far 2 30" LCD seems to be my best bet. I have 2 apple cinema 23" lcd's now. Maybe I should wait till the new apple LEDs 30" LCD come out.

Does anyone own 1 or has anyone actually edited on a LFD? thx in advance....

My main monitor is a 27" imac(2560x1440), almost the same resolution as the 30" LCD(2560x1600). I also have 2 20" LCD's(1680x1050) off to the sides. The 27" is absolutely awesome, I don't know how I lived without it before. Add to that the cool OSX feature of holding down ctrl and using the scrollwheel to zoom in, there is nothing to worry about as far as text being too small. One of the 20" LCD's is used as a second monitor for the imac, the other is hooked to my slave system. I use synergy to be able to drag my mouse right onto it like it's part of the imac.

I using one 30 Inch Apple Cine for my LE rig and two 20 Inch Cine for my HD rig.... I prefer the ONE as large over two small ones.

Danger .... Once you go 30" you aint never wanna turn back

You'll be waiting a long time for any new Apple 30" display - there's nothing even in the rumor mill on those. The only rumored new displays are 27 inchers but even that's an iffy proposition due to the problems with the 27" iMac displays (yellowing). You're better off saving your money and going with 3rd party displays - I like Viewsonic stuff myself. I use the now discontinued VP2650wb (26" 1200x1920 which is the same as the 24" led Apple jobbies). Viewsonic has a VP2655 at 1200x1920 now that's just as good and goes for around $900 a pop. For comparison the Apple 30" goes for $1800. You could get 2 VP2655's for the price of one 30" Apple display - good deal, eh? And any new Apple 30" display will certainly go for more than the current 30".

Additional:
The Viewsonic (and any other good third party display) can be put on a VESA mount which means you can mount it on a wall mount or console swing arm. Don't think that can be done with the Apple displays of any vintage.

John:

Are you using Pro Tools HD on the iMac 27"? if so, how?

So, no one has used a LFD as of yet???

I Have own'd the Apple 30" and it's truly awesome! I have a:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005115

I use it for gaming, and I am SO happy with it! I seem to be between 2 of these LG's 30"s and 2 Apple 30"s, but there is quiet a large price difference.

2 LG's = $2320.00

&
2 Apple's = $3200.00 (using EDU discount)

The apples look better, matching wise but.... but with the extra left over from the LG's I could update my video card too. so...

No, the 27" imac doesn't have a way to connect to a pcie card or chassis. The 27" imac's do allow video input though, so you could theoretically use it as a monitor for a mac pro. If you had VE pro you could then use the imac as a VI slave.

Yes, on the 27" Imac you press a couple of buttons to switch between showing what's on the Imac vs. what's on the other computer. Note that this feature is only available on the 27" Imacs, not the 21" ones.

27" 275t 1920x1200 with two wing 19" (1024x1280) in portrait which match the hight of the 27"
3 Monitor somewhat large format
HD editing is great with room for VI's and plugs or other apps.
Profile needs some consideration depending on your audio monitor setup.
I have a 5.1 layout with the center and analog VU meters above the 27"

I like the lower rez 27" for it's image is larger allowing faders and keyboard up front.
Composition lab.
If your close then the higher rez 27" , 30" may be your ticket.
