2020.3 Mac 5,1

I installed Mojave on this machine (2009 Mac Pro, updated to 5.1, Radeon RX560) and did not have good luck with it. 10.13.6 has been stable and problem free.

Curious though if Catalina/PT would run smoothly, or would I be pushing my luck?

These old cheese graters are killer. I'll be sad when it finally can't cut it anymore.

You mean Cheesegraters running Mojave works better when it comes to NVMe SSD's?
I have today a HyperX Predator PCIe SSD drive for projects and a couple of 860 EVO SSD:s in the optical bay for the system and system BU.
I don’t see a lot of speed improvement compared to my internal SATA:s.

I don't have first hand experience as I have a Trashcan, but that super fast NVMe thing requires a PCIe card as all the SATA bays and optical bays are limited to SATA speeds

I have 96GB installed and use PT and VE Pro on the same machine.
Works really well, though!
But I was thinking about building a slave for the sample libraries and VI:s hosted in VE Pro (Mac or PC).

Good choice regarding 10.13.6

We ordered two of those new suckers and I fiund out we could get a summer house in Italy for the same money

If you dont wanna spend €30K or more on new MP you can build a GREAT PC for 5-6% of that money and be very happy and use it as a slave and use the HS until you cant anymore. You will be stable and fast with HS!

Well on the contrary dear sir! Now is the time to buy as people are selling big luxury properties in south italy for 40% off the normal price and sometimes even more off the price.

I am talking about ex-pats who selling to leave the regions and most of them Brits and Germans.
