Question about calibration meter level.
I'm calibrating my PRE into my hd i/o. Using a DVU meter what should the meter reading be at for every PRE channel? -20dBFS? Does that read as -20.0 on the DVU meter on a track
Please, don't just say look in the manual for that newb. I have read the manual and it still doesn't make sense. Im not a professional audio engineer, just a guy making electronic music. please make it simple |

Re: Question about calibration meter level.
What is a DVU meter? Digital VU? Could you please post a link to what you are using?

Re: Question about calibration meter level.
yes DVU is Digital VU. Im using the meters in pro tools to calibrate it, the current meter I'm using is Digital VU, but I can change that...

I think it's 0VU = +4dBm = 1.228VRMS. Last edited by MindDead; 11-08-2015 at 12:12 PM. |

Re: Question about calibration meter level.
I'm confused, you saying its 1.228 rather then 1.23?
In either case what db on an analog VU meter is that? |

Re: Question about calibration meter level.
0 VU = +4 dBu

You'll have to have an AC Voltmeter capable of reading RMS. IF your analog VU meter is correctly calibrated to 0VU = +4dBu (and that's a big if), then you could use that, but really, the only way to do these kinds of calibrations in a meaningful way is to use a know good AC Voltmeter with RMS measurement capability. If this is all gobbledegook to you (and it seems like it is), then you should hire an experienced studio tech for an hour (less than the cost of a good RMS meter) and let him/her cal your system. Then spend some time reading up on this stuff (Mastering Audio by Bob Katz is a good starting place).
