Steve...

I'd trade you the card for some cables... ???

I have a chassis too, an SBS bit 3, but the card will not work with my particular chassis.

Don't have the card with... I can get numbers off it this weekend.

Best to contact me directly.... didn't see this message till now.

Hey Shorty,

I am good now. I happen to be digging thru some junk boxes at a job site, and found one by pure fluck. The one I actually needed. It works great... but thanks anyway.

Does anyone know of anyone doing DSP farm card repairs? I have some that came with a bunch of stuff I got, however they don't work, and I would love to get a couple more cards running. I can do analog electronics just fine but digital is a whole different story. I am pretty sure that digidesign (avid) would tell me they don't do it anymore... upgrade. You know the story.

Actually I am pretty sure Digi does repair them. (And might just send a working replacement upposed to repairing)Seems to me I was talking with them about some other repairs and asked about these since I had a bad one around, and was suprised to hear they would repair/replace... This was in the past year. However, I'm pretty sure the cost was around $150 taround what they were getting for upgrades), in which case, you could just buy a working replacement for less... if you're talking DSP Farms.Mix cards might be a different story... That would be worth while.

Last time I upgraded from rev Q to QE it was around $150 per card... that was probably 7 years ago though. Since you can find used QE farms for under $100 now, it's probably better to just buy used ones.

Here comes a question that just popped out of my head:

Can you put mix or core cards inside a G4 while using an expansion chassis?

I have a 7 slot chassis but only a 5 slot ribbon node cable came with it.

Patender,

No. The reason is because the node cable is what actually ties all the cards together, and in turn must be connected to a core card. If you put farm cards in a different area without hooking up the node cable they just won't work.

I have the same issue. I have an expansion chassis, but only have a 5 node cable. It does give me one more slot then with the cards only in the computer, but that is all. I have been looking for a 10 node cable for a while now. They are hard to come by.

I am not sure if you are using a mix system or a D24 system. If you are using a D24 system, you can put 2 i/o units (8 channel units) on the D24 card with a y cable, but only one the D24 card. You can also run 2 D24 cards if you need i/o and not DSP power.

On the mix system, you can put two 8 channel i/o units on each of the cards with the same y cable. This is why the mix cards are more expensive, not to mention they have more processing power as well.

You can also mix up the 2 systems as well, I can't remember what with what, but you can find that info usually with the protools software if you have the manuals, or you can find it on the web site in the legacy hardware documentation area.

Hi Shorty!, I've found this thread and I'll like to ask you if you have used this pinout to make your "Y" cables, I find it weird where it says"50 to 52" and "57 to 52" for the 2nd DB60 female. Is it right?. I'dnt like to screw two cables trying this. I have 3 digilink HD50 to DB60 cables and I'd like to make a dual HD50 to a single DB60 to conect 2 888/24s to a 192 I/O. Any advice?

Jane,

I know that I posted this thread and all, but if you follow this pin out exactly, it will work fine. I have made about 15 or so cables with this pin out and I have never had an issue. I would say that 60% of these cables are on the road touring and they in perfect working order.

I still haven't gotten the ambition to make em, though I want to.....
Would be cleaner to have them all custom length, and the combined cable would be nice.

Biggest problem for me was the cost of the connectors.
No place local with them, and everything I found was like $8 for the one, $12 for the other, by the time I got the IDC and Housing.

Eh.... I found a stash of digi cables when I was building my current 64 Channel rig, and so I just grabbed em.

Some day, if I can get some cheap connectors, I'm gonna make a TON of these.

Seriously, Digi could still make money on em. NEW digi cables are selling for less than some are getting for these old ones.
