-34 Media Proxy Time out error message

There have been a couple of reports of this error message and we have several things to look for as possible causes of this message.

The Media Proxy error has to do with the system requesting media it is not receiving fast enough.

- Update to the latest version of AV (as of 9/23/98 that is version 4.1v6)

- If there is sufficient space on the drive, then this could indicate that the Disk Cache (Memory Control panel) is set incorrectly. AV requires this to be set at 96k.

The customer that reported this problem had their Disk Cache set to 512k. Changing this back to 96k (and restarting the Mac) fixed the problem.

- One workaround is to repartition the media drives with the Avid Drive Utility, making sure to change the partition sizes slightly. Older drives that have not been updated, or repartitioned lately may be causing this problem.

- Removing an alias for the Avid Project folder from the Apple menu items cleared this up.

- turning off the "Remember recently used items" option in the Apple Menu Options control panel.
- Check SCSI connections

- Verify Drive configs (wide first in chain, proper termination, etc.)

- Remove unnecessary System Extensions

- Reseat SCSI cards

- Look at where the error is occurring, on certain media, on certain sections of a sequence, re-digitize "bad" media, try a track bounce if there is a section full of fades, etc.
