MP9 + Lion Kernel Panic (and how I fixed it)
This is just to document my experience and my fix. It's an early-2008 Mac Pro (dual quad-core Xeon 2.8GHz, Core 2-based Xeons) with a Pro Tools MP9 + MobilePre bundle. I just upgraded to Lion today.
Followed the recommendation to do a full fresh reinstall, which is a pain, and then updated to 10.7.2. Once that was done, I installed my PT MP9 disc, which is 9.0 for some reason (I just got this thing at the start of the free plugin-palooza deal). Reboot and kernel panic. It got stuck on something called DigiDio.kext, so a little digging around on Google suggested that I delete it. Here's how I did it: Boot into the Lion installer again (thank goodness it creates a recovery partition automagically). From the Utilities menu, pick Terminal. cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD (or whatever your system drive is called) cd System cd Library cd Extensions rm -r DigiDio.kext diskutil repairPermissions Then quit out of terminal and restart from your Lion install. Voila! After that I installed the 9.0.5 update and rebooted and I'm updated. So now here's my question: what did I just delete? Is it something I need? |
