Default SRC issues with PT 9.0.2/Avid Mbox

Im working on a session at 48k. I try to import and apply src to a stereo audio track recorded and mixed @ 44.1k. The track imports, and then plays at the wrong speed - playing too slow.

Closed the session, quit Pro Tools, system audio is playing wrong. Check the Mbox CP, sample rate is at 48k. Shouldn't it have reset the sample rate to 44.1k when PT quit? I can change it in the driver app and everything is fine, until I try to use a session higher than 44.1 or trying to match sample rates among audio files in the same project.

PT 9.0.2/Win7x64/Avid Mbox 3

reinstalled drivers, rebooted a few times. This machine is pretty clean... just Windows - all optimized per guide, PT, drivers, Waves, Autotune, Acronis, Chrome, Kontakt, Massive, Nexus. All compatible versions.

Any help? Am I just missing something?

Further messing around with this:

Tried to import the VO audio recorded at 48k into a 44.1k session with the music bed. Music (recorded at 44.1) plays fine in the 44.1 session. Importing audio and converting from 48 > 44 results in the VO playing fast. Import session data and apply src results in VO track playing fast.

For kicks, I tried to re-sample in Audacity, but the same thing happens - it seems the audio bitrate gets adjusted, but the actual waveforms are not being adjusted.

Seeing as how other apps aren't being allowed to change sample rates - is this an issue with my Mbox (requiring repair) or an issue with the drivers?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible the session you're importing from was actually clocked at a different sample rate than the session indicates? That seems likely, given the symptoms.

If it was clocked at 48k, but the session was 44.1, the files would be 'tagged' as 44.1, even though they're 48k. If you import and SRC those files Pro Tools will use a conversion ratio from 44.1 to 48 - but if those files are *already* 48k it will mean they get converted to a SR that's even slower, resulting in slow sounding playback.

Try creating a new session at 48k and import session data, but don't check SRC - do they now play back correctly?

Hi DTS, thanks for the response.

The VO track was definitely recorded and clocked at 48k - Im only using the Avid Mbox.

If I import the 44k music track into the 48k session, the music track plays slow whether or not i check apply SRC

If I import the 48k VO track into a 44.1k session, the VO track plays fast regardless of whether or not I check apply SRC

If I create a new 44.1 session and import the music (44.1) and the VO (done at 48), the VO plays fast - regardless of using import audio or import session data, regardless of whether apply SRC is checked.

If I create a new 48k session and import music (44.1) and then the VO (48), the music plays slow - again, regardless of the apply SRC checkbox or the import method used.

I can re-record the VO at 44.1 later, but I would really like to know what's going on here - something definitely seems up.

What happens if you open one of those files in Quicktime? Does it play properly?
