Default 2020.12 not compatible with some plugins

I just installed Pro Tools 2020.12 (Win 10 x64) Ultimate trial license and first time startup, it loaded fine. Second startup it crashed while reading the WaveShell2-AAX 12.1.aaxplugin bundle. Saw a note suggesting maybe too many plugins are being loaded. OK... Solution was to remove the 12.1 bundle from the Pro Tools plugin folder. Then today I also notice that Steinberg "The Grand 3" plugin could not be found as well as "HALion Sonic SE"...

I'm a Cubase user and moving over to Pro Tools... The problem is I have several Waves 12.1 plugins that I use all the time in Cubase, so I need those to work in Pro Tools.

Solution. I downgraded my install to 2020.9.1. This was the "latest" previous version I could find. Now all my Waves 12.1 plugins are working again as well as The Grand 3 and HALion Sonic SE. So the problem is with 2020.12.

Sorry for the newbie question... but where would I find the previous 2020.11 version which folks on this group reference?

Thanks!
Joe

Found the 2020.11 download...

Just went through uninstalling and reinstalling 2020.9.1 which also gave the same error intermittently as well as 2020.11 (same error) and now back to 2020.12. Virtual Instruments and Waves 12.1 plugins are loading now when it doesn't crash. Is there more detail of what exactly the "AAE - 9178" error is? Is there a crash log somewhere I can view?

I have not been able to get a clear answer from previous posts...

Thanks.
Joe

Based on what you're saying, maybe you have a hardware issue. All versions of PT(up to 2020.12) work fine here, along with a large batch of Waves 12 plugins.

My recommendation for anyone making a switch between DAW's is to leave your old system drive(in this case, your cubase and waves 12 setup) just as it is, and pull the drive. Install a blank C: drive and load up from scratch(so its not chock full of tons of data that is giving you fits) and install Pro Tools and Waves 12 plugins. If you need to go back to cubase(which you will for some time to come), swap the old C: drive back in for that. Using a tray-less SATA drive cage makes drive swaps simple and quick. I have 3 adapters(holding 3 separate 500GB SSD's) ready to go. 1 is my main drive with the latest of everything, 1 is from 6 months ago(give or take) with PT 2018.12 and Waves 11 plugins, and the 3rd drive will be a fresh clone of the main drive, just before I install any update(like the next version of PT)

Right... I have no problem with Waves V12 plugins... Its only an issue for version 12.1 of with I have 2 or 3 plugins. Abbey Road RS234 compressor, CLA Epic and others. I just now istalled an update to the NX plugin. which installed as version 12.6... Interested to see how that works...

Stay tuned.

12.6 Version loads fine. I went back an reinstalled Abbey Road Compressor which recreated the Waveshell12.1-aaxplugin package and it crashed again on load. Everything else.. 11.0 12.0 12.6 waveshells load fine. Guess I should be talking to Waves support. 😁

Hello, it been a month now that I am not able to make 2020.12 work, not even going back to previous version, not sure what happened, but just won;t open, when I try to set up the Ethernet port, it keeps creashing and crashing, FRUSTRATED, never thoguht this day will come.

I'm just not able to WORK. Either I need to buy a new computer or pro tools has to do something

In Nov when they leat out the 2020.11, that one was working great, then less than a moth they put out 2020.12, and since mid Dec no music for me. I am just FRUSTRATED with technology at this point, so much money invested and this crap doesn't work.

I worked with Waves support a couple weeks ago. The issue was with the GrandRhapsody Piano plugin. Removing the plugin temporarily fixed it.

They provided an updated file:

WaveShell2-InternalSynth-VST 12.0_x64.dll

which resolved the problem. ProTools 2020.12 humming along fine now!

This is known as "thread jumping" and is not the way to get help for your issue, which has little to do with the OP(original poster). Start a new thread in the proper section(probably the Getting Started section) and include information as described in this sticky thread in the top dark area called Help Us Help You. Without proper details on your complete setup, nobody will be able to help

Hello there, just wanted to do a follow up here and let you guys know that the problem was resolved.

This is what was happening, I had 3 ethernet ports on my computer, so what it fixed the problem was disabling 2 of the ports.

My computer and pro tools are now back workign 100%.

Thx to Avid support.
