Eleven Rack as Interface

I'm curious if anyone has used the Eleven rack to track vocals? Wondering if the Pre is decent enough to get good results. Seems this is the least expensive way to get into ProTools 10. Also, is it possible in real-time to run softsynths (like Vacuum) thru the Eleven rack?

It is a great way to get into Pro Tools. The Pre is fine for lots of stuff.
You cannot run synths on the Eleven Rack, they run in the host computer.

The 11 seems like a good deal since it comes with the PT software and includes pre's.

BTW, I meant routing VI's to the 11 rack and back into PT in real time. wondering if that is possible.

Also curious to know how bass sounds going thru that puppy.

I've heard that the bass emu's are pretty good also

You can reroute any signal into the Eleven Rack virtual rig. Not sure this makes practical sense for most mon-guitar things. If you already have the synth you likely already have or can easily get the plugins to do all this in the box.

The pre in the 11R is adequate if you have nothing else; it's certainly nothing like my UA Solo 610.

And you can run any track that has audio from PT into the 11R reamp inputs and back in to a PT track, whether it's a guitar track, a vi or whatever. I get some wicked sounds running violin samples from Kontakt 5 through the 11R as a reamp device and picking a rig in the 11R.

I've done vocals through the 11R several times, but only metal style vocals (screaming, cookie monster, ect...) and it does great. I like to run the vocals through the rig, usually using a 'green screamer' to add some grit, some reverb, maybe some chorus, and eq.

You can run anything through the rig, including VI's, though many times its just easier to use a plugin, at least for me.

The current street price of a new 11R with PT10 is just insane ($600 - $699) and its a great unit that you can use as your main interface or you can integrate it into your current native or HD setup.


The bass amps are true to their model, and I think they sound great. There are 2 bass amps, both based on the same bass amp. I have several 11R rigs for download for free on my blog site, including several bass amp rigs. Link is in my signature if interested.

Sounds cool! I actually own Protools HD, but version 8. The upgrade to 10 is $1500 for the software only!

So i figure i could get the Eleven rack AND get ProTools 10 software to install on another partition. Seems like the best deal out there!

Due to finances I recently had to sell my Vintech (Neve Clone) pre. So I could use the 11 to record thru as well. Sweet.

Any word on when PT 11 is coming out? I would hate to get this then have to upgrade again.
