I AM USING PROTOOLS ON AN iBOOK AND I WAS WONDERING WHICH TYPE OF FIRE WIRE DRIVE WOULD BE BEST SUITED TO SAVE AND STORE FILES.

Default Re: EXT DRIVE?

Experts (which I'm not) please chime in.

You're just using the FW drive for backups or to move audio from system to system, right?

If that's the case, any ol' Firewire drive should work fine. I have 2 Maxtor 5700 rpm 40 gig's for that purpose.

Just make sure your Mac is running on OS9.1. And only mount the FW drive when you're transferring -- otherwise PT may attempt to play back audio from the FW drive rather than your internal drive.

You've no doubt seen lots on the DUC about Firewire -- drivers, rpm's, seektimes, chipsets, etc. If you're just using the drive for storage, those things shouldn't matter.

Again, you brainiacs please jump in with corrections.
