Default MBox Pro 3rd Gen Connection Problems

Hi,

I have made a video of some connection problems I am having with my MBox Pro.

I suspect I need to invest in a new, recommended FireWire card for my PC and replace the cable (it doesn't seem to be too tight a connection in its physical connection with the MBox).

Do you think this might fix the problem? I'd like someone with some expertise to please advise before I drop the $$$s.

Here's the vid where I am not touching anything to cause the connection to drop / pick up and the power light on the MBox is flashing. You can see Device Manager and the MBox software struggling to maintain a connection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RTQT004VdM

I have tried all optimisations and this has had no impact on this issue. I have read widely on this issue but have failed to find anything to fix the issue.

My MBox worked fine for the first few months.

Here's a Sandra report:-

Firstly, I want to thank you for taking the time to post a sandra report right from the get go

Reading your specs I see two things. First your pro tools software, is it on the P: drive or on the C: driver? Pro tools (the software) has to be installed on the C: session where the OS is.

Second, you're using a via firewire card. This could be the problem right there, Via seems to cause a lot of incompatibility, so much so that most manufacturer of hardware I know of recommend using a firewire card that has a TI chip set.

Thank you very much for responding. I really appreciate it.

My Pro Tools software is installed on my C: drive with the OS. I read somewhere that it's best to install ProTools in a drive of its own and had intended to keep it all on the P: drive but, to be honest, I don't know how to achieve this and whether I've already done the recommended thing. I'll go research it a bit more closely... unless you have any advice you can give me on this score?

Thanks also for advice re. the FireWire card. I will invest in Avid's recommended card and hope that fixes the problem.

You can keep the software on the OS drive, and the session files (audio data, midi data etc) on a separate drive, that is the recommended thing to do. If you can get a third drive, having your VI's samples on that one will be even better.

Check the SIIG firewire cards, I've had good success with those.

Nice one. Thanks Man.

I bought the SIIG card from Amazon so I'm hoping that will do the job.... I'll let you know how it goes....

Here, the same problem. My card is also VIA, but in the last 2 years I never had a problem. I'm playing my works temporarily with a USB Fast-track borrowed. I hope to resolve this soon. I think the problem may be the gigabyte motherboard
