Default Pro Tools 8 LE will not record any vocals using pro tools 8 Le

Alright I'm new to pro tools and I just got pro tools LE 8. Below is the specs of my Mac Book Pro.

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C
SMC Version (system): 1.58f16
Serial Number (system): W81022EUAGW
Hardware UUID: 8B77140E-FEDB-52CA-99A7-324D704E10F9
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled
I am using an external hard drive as recommended also. I have the M-Box Mini and a Oxygen 25 midi controller also.

The problem that I'm having is that I cant record vocals for some reason. Now when I first installed Pro Tools I was able to record some vocals just messing around trying to get the fill for the program and how it worked.
After I installed the Oxygen 25 midi controller I have not been able to record any vocals at all. I can see the level meter moving when I speak and can hear the vocals just fine but when I record its not picking up anything although I can still see the meter moving up and down.

I have watched the DVD that came with pro tools and have done everything just the way it says to do. I have checked and the setting many times and tried to record vocals times.

When i do record it says recording in midi. I dont understand this at all. I even un-plugged the midi controller, restarted pro tools and it still will not let me record any vocals.

How do I turn midi off in order to lay vocals on a track? In all the video's that I've seen everyone seems to be doing both the same time with no problems.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

Are you trying to record to a midi track?
make sure you add an audio track. Set the input to whatever input you mic is plugged into. Rec arm the track and pressrecord on the transport.

Yes I am selecting an audio track. I go to track and hit add audio track. But it still showes up as a midi track for some reason. No matter how I select the track from mono audio stero audio or instrument tack audio or mono. It just keeps saying that its an midi track. This only started when I installed the midi controller Oxygen 25. Before that I was able to record vocals. I have looked but I cant find an option to even turn off midi. i.e (not talking about the midi mute button). No matter what I do the track still forms as a midi track and will not record vocals..

Wuzup everyone!! Ok Im still not able to record any vocals at all. I have the M-Box mini and when I select an audio track pro tools will not even pick up the vocals. No matter how I do the I/O's. The only way I can hear myself through the headphones or speakers is to make an instrument track and us it for vocals. I know this is not the way it should be done. I have my I/O's correct ( as far as I can tell and know) I can see the input meter moving when I speak and everything. The problem is that pro tools will not record the vocals. Yes I am arming the track and hitting the record button on the transport bar.

Has anyone every had this problem?

Does anyone think that it could be my M-Box that's not working right?

Please help!!!!!!!!!

So what your are saying is an Audio track go into record but not record the input (vocal mic in this case)

Sounds like an input routing problem

  1. Delete all prefs with the helper found here http://www.jcdeshaies.com/
  2. Create a new session choosing file type, rate, depth, and "Stereo Mix" under I/O Settings
  3. Create 1 mono audio track.
  4. Select proper input to track.
  5. Record enable.
  6. Hit #3 on the number pad.
  7. Are you recording?

Do you have Input Only Monitoring selected?(under the Options menu I believe). With keyboard focus on, the "k" key toggles that function.

Unhappy Re: Pro Tools 8 LE will not record any vocals using pro tools 8 Le

Ok im using Pro Tools 8 LE version 8.0.4

Still not able to record vocals.
Still not able to pick up audio with a mono audio track.
Only pick up vocals with an instrument track, both mono and stereo.

I looked under the options menu but I dont see (input monitor settings)

Where can I go to check this?

Also will the link provide about preferences work for my version of pro tools?

Thanks you all for your help with this. I'm about at the end of the rope and ready to give up on Pro tools. I have never had such trouble with any recording program..

Angry Re: Pro Tools 8 LE will not record any vocals using pro tools 8 Le

I found the input only monitoring option and switched it to Auto input monitoring. It's only two choices to pick from right? Auto and Input monitoring only?

Still not able to record anything.
Can hear in speakers and headphones.
Can see the meters moving when I speak.

It says that I'm recording to a midi track, no matter how I pick the track. It does this with audio track as well as an instrument track.

I can only see the meter moving and hear vocals with a instrument track. I get nothing at all with an audio track..

Please Help!!!!

Also another thing that is going on with this is that

Everything is set up in midi

When I pick and instrument track or audio track, it ends up being an midi track

I think this may be why I'm not able to record any vocals at all.

Anyone know anything about how to turn off midi tracks?

I'm using a Oxygen 25 controller
