Default Windows wont recognize MBox

I just bought my first pair of monitors to go with my MBox mini and they respond perfectly to the inputs on it, but for some reason i cant get windows to use them. I went into the sound and audio devices menu and set the Mini as the default playback device, but it won't give me any real sound. The only thing i have managed to get is a very quiet response the the windows program events when i test them. I have already reinstalled protools (7.4) and that didn't help. Any suggestions?

More info is definitely in order. What OS, Xp or Vista? If it's XP you can use the MME Helper :
http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...4&itemid=27146
and "opt in" other Windows programs. BUT if it's Vista, there's no wave driver as of yet
and you're out of luck. BTW, even in XP forget Quicktime & I-tunes, there's been a "known incompatibility issues" for years.

Two things...you have to MANUALLY add the programs you want to "Opt in" on the MME helper. AND you can only have one audio source at a time...no "sharing" on this one.

Do you have the necessary "ins" of the Windows Mixer showing and turned up?

What are the levels set at in Windows Audio Controls?

Where is the Mix/Play knob on the M Box Mini?

Cheers,

Good News! The MME helper got Itunes to work. Unfortunately all the music i play sounds choppy, and generally like it is being attacked by an army of robots. Still it is good to hear something come out of it. I have no idea what would cause this, and Itunes is the only program other than protools that i have gotten a response from. I entered in firefox, quicktime, and windows media player into the MME menu, but still have no response. As for the windows audio controls, it refused to recognize the MBOX as a mixer device.

Thanks for the tips guys, your help is appreciated

Because there's a "known issue" between I-tunes and Digi that's been known for YEARS but there's no "known" fix for it........
