The Guardian Angel for Protools 12 guards you through the dark side of Pro Tools Automation:

If you press play before selecting a time range
or you don't select a time range at all
and then press WRITE TO SELECTION,
Automation will be overwritten from start to end.

If you have the 'Suppress Automation Write "To ..." Warnings' Preference deactivated,
you will get a warning dialog box for every "Write To" command.
Unfortunately this includes the harmless command: ‚Write to Selection'

TheGuardianAngel disables all the needless selection based warnings.

Unfortunately not.
I contributed to the development providing user feedback and feature requests but 2 Years ago Gregor somehow managed to disappear completely, so I don't have any contact info.

I just tested TheGuardianAngel with the new 2018.1 release:
It works, it's save to upgrade Pro Tools.
