Install Pro Tools 2020 beside Pro Tools 12?

I'm on a Mac, and I'm pretty sure this is feasible, but is this safe to do, by changing the name of my current version of Pro Tools 12 to "Pro Tools 12", I can then install Pro Tools 2020 to run it in parallel (not at the same time obviously) and test it on my system to see how it works?

If so, anything to worry about when doing this? Do you guys do this with new versions?

Yes as long as your system is compatible with 2020. Your plugins and the pref files are shared so that could cause issues. Try it.

Basically you need 10.13.6 or later for 2020.x and maximum of 10.13.2 for 12.8.3 -- but with that said, I'm pretty sure 12.8.3 works just well on 10.13.6, just not tested by Avid.

Now if I wanted to check compatibility.... I'd do a clean macOS install on a partition/container on your boot drive or if not room there then on a spare SSD... install of macOS does not take too long and you know you have a perfectly clean install when done to test with.
