Red face Upgrading to PT9

Here's my situation. I'm running an 003 Rack LE 7.4.2 on a iMac 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.5.3 and I'm very happy with how smoothly it runs. Now I want to upgrade to PT 9.

1. My first question is how much will this cost to upgrade this system to PT9?

2. Can someone point me in a direction where I can get step by step instructions, would be great to even talk to someone, on how to do this as painlessly as possible. (the reason I'm still running 7.4.2 is because I tried upgrading to 8 and my entire system got f'ed up.) Had to revert to an old system and I've been scared to try it ever since.

I'm very excited about what I've read about PT 9 and I'm so up for it but I just don't wanna be freaking out in front of my computer for 6 hours again while I try to figure out why I can't boot up, or open any of my old projects, or why half my plug ins don't work??? Thanks

I'll jump in and do the best I can, although I've only upgraded to PT9 on Windows so far.

It's $249 to upgrade LE to PT9. You buy it from the Avid store.

  1. Clone your system drive in case something goes wrong, because things always can, no matter how careful you are.
  2. Uninstall PT7.
  3. Update your computer to the latest OS version. I think it's best to use the combo updater, but I'm a bit behind the times on Mac stuff at present.
  4. Go to iLok.com and make sure your PACE stuff is up to date.
  5. Install PT9 drivers.
  6. Install PT9.
  7. Install the newest versions of all plug-ins.
I've had no problem opening 7.x sessions in PT9. In fact, I've even brought PT9 sessions to work and they open right up in 7LE!

Thanks. for that. What's the best way to clone my system drive? Just drag and drop onto another drive?

On a seperate note, anyone know how much it would cost to upgrade to the latest Mac OS?

It has to be done with a program capable of seeing and copying all the hidden files and whatnot and putting them in the proper places. A simple copy won't work. People have mentioned Carbon Copy and Superduper. I think there are some other good ones. It's a good question for the google.

I upgraded from 7.3.1. The best thing is to not have any previous version installed, including drivers. All you need is the serial number on your interface and a iLok.
