There's always the Josephson C42. It's been getting raves for overhards from some people I really respect.

I used the MK012,s for a while and didn't think they were bright enough, just okay. I now have a pair of Rode NT1000's and they sound great.Wide soundfield and good clarity. $600 a pair

I don,t mike the whole kit with them though,Just cyms. kind of looking over thier shoulder.

I totally second the Rode NT1000's. They seem to work for me every time. They pick up a clear sound no matter what. or if you want to kick up the quality a bit (but not much difference), go with the Rode NTK's. Similar tone to the 100's, but more definition. don't get me wrong, they're both great. these babies easily rival all of the more expensive mics on the market.
good luck!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If money wasn´t an issue they would be my first choice. I have the Royer demo CD and they are just great. I think I like the stereo Royer best. Way above my budget for the moment.

Thanks for all the sugestions.

I got the Rode NT5 mics a few weeks ago, and I've been *VERY* pleased. I've used them a lot since for overheads, and they rock. You can get a matched, sequential serial number pair (they only come in pairs) for $300.00 from musician's friend. I had to order them because nobody in Atlanta (from pro audio shops down to guitar center) had them.

4033a's are still my go-to mic for overheads (when I can't borrow my friend's Royer R121s - OMIGOSH THESE ROCK), but the Rode is a great small condenser pair. They also do a swell coincident-pair jazz piano sound. Very full.

I use an MP-2NV as the preamp for my overheads as well. I have tried several mics and find the Neumann KM-184s to be the best. Great detail, super combination with the GR, the rise in the high frequencies gives a beautiful shimmer to the cymbals but the toms and snare come through beautifully.
