Default exporting audio

hi. i am brand new to protools le. i have been using cubase sx2 for a while and for some very good reasons i have switched over to protools le with the digi 001 and version 6.4. i have noticed that the two programs are similar, but because i have used cubase so much, i dont have the protools thinking yet.

how do i export a section of audio from a jam session? i recorded 20 songs in a row, just hit record and went for a couple of hours. now i just want to bounce (is that the right term?) about 5 songs. i would like to be able to put each song into its own sesion folder for editing. in cubase sx, all i had to do was line up the marker tags on the time line and hit the export tab from a pull down menu, and it was done almost instantly.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

hey,
the bounce to disk function works for this. mute/select the tracks you want to bounce, and well, bounce.(file/bounce to disk). Or you could load it into your audio editor and seperate the regions. Or just do it in pro tools. You'll be fine, the transition from cubase was fairly smooth
cheers,
trin

What you want to do is first open your main session and use Save As... to protect your original session -- Use the ALL GROUP and select the single song you want to create a new session for - Consolidate all the tracks. Now remove all the regions in the session except for the one consolidated song you want to create the new session for. Use Ctrl+Shift+U and Ctrl+Shift+B to REMOVE (not DELETE!!!) the regions from the session. The only regions remaining in the region list should be the consolidated region files. Once you have a session loaded with only the one song.. use Save Session Copy In... and elect to copy the audio files. Revert to saved (without saving the currently loaded session) and do the same for each of the songs. This will use extra disk space but after you've created the new sessions, you can delete the original session folder.

2 Ways that I would go about this:

1. go thru and consolidate as Rail mentioned, but I would then just export to a temp folder I created (select the file either in the regions window, or on the track and press ctl+shift+K). Create a new session and "import audio to track..." Make sure you keep all the settings the same on the export and import (sample rate, bit depth) and you won't do any converting up and down. MAKE SURE the audio files copy to the new session audio files folder...

2. My most common way -
Select the 5 songs you want to use and put them on separate tracks. After you do that just close the session.
Create a new session, click on File, go to "Import Session Data..." In the "from" window, go to the original session and select it. When the "Import" window comes up, under "Audio Media Options" select "copy from source media." The "Source tracks" are from the original session, and the "Destination" is where it will go in the current session. Under destination, select New Track and hit OK. You're done. This method will copy any plug-ins and plug-in settings you have set, any automation you've done, and all other settings applied to that track (which is extremely convenient in a lot of situations).

Just make sure COPY FROM SOURCE MEDIA is selected if you use the second method (if you link to source media it will look for the other session and read from it's audio files folder, meaning if you at some point deleted the original session, you will be missing files from the session you're saving).
