Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Allen,
Your knowledge and help is greatly appreciated. I am a Mac user, who is about to purchase a PC for use with Pro Tools LE. I will also need to use it from time-to-time for some non-related WEB courses that I will be taking during the Summer and Fall. Will I get better PT performance with The Allenstein Machine, or the E-machines 6811? What are the DaveC scores @ the 128 samples H/W buffer setting on these 2 machines? Is Mac Universe a reliable vendor? Lastly, is Service Pack 2 working with PT 6.9? Thank you so much for your feedback! Eric

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
So I'm looking at these two machines:
7426GX m6811 $1550 verses $975 ($825 Plus $150 for the memory upgrade to 1GB) What should I do? I'm thinking about going with the cheaper machine but I have financing at work for two years and that makes me think about doing the more expensive one... Advice requested.. Thanks |

Moi Slemmu
Ostin vähän aikaa sitten läppärin tietoasema-nimisestä firmasta. Heidän Z7- mallinsa tuntuu toimivan ihan OK. tosin se on centrino. t.iikka |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
got my dell 9200. WOW this thing is huge. the 17" widescreen makes you soil your pants its awesome for editing on.
i installed pro tools straight on to the pre installed software to see how it handled. i got 18 tracks out of it before going into red! and when i pressed record it came out of the red even. i could get more! so i partitioned my drive i cant wait to see how many tracks i can get on a fresh OS |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Hi everyone,
I've been thinking about getting a laptop for mobile PT recording with my Mbox. I was just skimming this thread and it seems like the eMachines M6811 Allen mentioned is a smoking system for a great price. I have 2 questions: 1) is this compatible with the Mbox? 2) When I hear people mention the "Standard PC" install, what are they talking about? I have installed XP Home and Pro many times and never noticed any option like that - is is something that only comes up on a laptop? Thanks for the info! Kevin |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
ok i reinstalled windows i am yet to put on my stripped down side of windows.
so i thought i would try a daveC test while i had norton antivirus, the internet, msn7, azureus torrent downloader (downloading windows xp sp1) and style xp running. i am running xp pro sp2 i have a dell inspiron 9200 2.0ghz centrino, 1gb ram, 80gig 5400rpm hardrive i got 15 tracks with 5 plugins on each (thats 75 plugins!) and could record for 60 seconds. what i think im gonna do is use my main side of windows to record and do editing and then install my stripped down version on my other partition for major editing and mastering. anyone else done this? thought i would share this with you guys i will post when i do my stripped side with davec scores. and thanks too people on this forum who have helped me. |

You will get better performance with the most current Allenstein Machines listed but I'm not sure the difference is going to make up for the portability you gain from the laptop. I haven't seen anyone complain about not having enough processoing power with that 6811 laptop yet when it is configured properly and allows the lowest buffer settings. E-Machines gets about 32+21 and the Allenstein gets about 32+27 without overclocking on PTLE 6.9. Many people have bought from www.macuniverse.com with no problems so far other than one guy who received his laptop without the adjustments that the company told him they would do on the laptop before he received it. I don't blame them as they should be sending it as is and not doing modifications to this laptop to protect themselves. I've heard that Service Pack 2 is now working with PTLE 6.9 but haven't tried it yet myself. Allen |
