Default freezes while working on a project?

Hi Everyone, I've been living with this problem for a minute now, it just doesn't make sense:

I'm running PTHD2 pci on a dual processor amd, 4 gigs ram, the computer is good enough to run this for sure. I have the amd timing fix on there as well.

I've got 18 tracks and about 6 auxes in a project i'm working on. There ARE plugins on, nothing crazy, a few waves, mostly the digi eq plugins, as i'm still tracking and wanted to just get a good sound to inspire me while I work.

I'll be playing back a file and then i open a plugin that's already on the track, and it'll freeze. I have to restart. I'll then bring it back up, and I'll try to just change the input on a channel to record, and it'll freeze. It's frozen while just zooming in while playing. I've created a new channel once, saved it, then started playing and it then froze. I restarted the computer and I was able to record on the new channel without a problem.

Has anyone had similar problems happen to them? Any ideas as to what the problem could be? It doesn't seem to be a trash preferences fix, it's a relatively new computer, new SATA hard drive.. I'm just at a loss.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I'm building a new studio, buying a house and getting married in a month time frame.

I'm running 8.0.3

Frankly I would go back to 8.01 CS3 and see if its all good there. If so, then clone it and go to 8.03 and start ringing out the issues.

That's my last ditch effort, I was hoping someone had already had this problem and figured this one out for me :)

No reason to re-invent the wheel on this one, unfortunately there are so many different reasons why this could be happening. I just don't want to hear "you should just buy a mac."

If you run XP, then I agree and would roll back to 8.0.1

I'll do that. I think all this mess started when I did the updates. I'll also post the sandra on Tuesday if 8.0.1 doesn't fix it for monday. Thanks!
