No other way than the Firewire 1814?
For recording at least 6 tracks at a time is there no other device than the 1814? I am looking for a cheaper alternative, but I need to record a whole band at one time. I think the 1814 will do 10 tracks at once which is awesome but expensive. Surely there is a way to record full bands on individual tracks other than buying a 1814 right? I have an Alesis mixer with firewire on it if that helps.
Just trying to make sure before I buy something this expensive (to me). Thanks.

It depends on what kind of inputs you need. Do you need mic pres, line inputs, ADAT, or S/PDIF?

Re: No other way than the Firewire 1814?
If you have an alesis mixer with firewire, you would probably have better luck with different DAW software. Pro Tools requires that you use either Digidesign hardware (for LE) or M-Audio hardware (for MPowered). Other DAW software (like Cubase, Sonar, Traktion) does not have that limitation, and can be used directly with the mixer you already have.
If you still wanted to use Pro Tools for mixing and editing, you could track using the other software and your mixer, then use one of the less expensive 2 I/O units for Pro Tools and import the WAVs for mixing and editing.

www.novamusik.com has the 1814 for $319. I got mine from nova. You're not gonna get by much cheaper than that no matter what you get.
