Really loving ilok cloud

I been running Protools from the ilok cloud and is really great! You have to check it out for yourself’s. Now the plugin vendors have to catch out on this feature. Please!!

I haven't investigated this yet.

When I'm traveling between locations, I move licenses off the iLok, back to my account, and when I arrive put them back on the iLok.

I presume that in order to use PT with the iLok cloud, you have to have an active internet connection the entire time?

Normally I refuse to do that, but a couple of studios I freelance at, are permanently on line, and I'm not at liberty to change that.

If 3rd plugin vendors get on board, this would save me ever taking the iLok out of my studio.

Can you freely move the license from iLok, to the cloud, or computer, or back to your account, any time you want?

Does the internet connection need to be continuously active or only when PTs is started and plugins scanned?

Pro tools pc has a video of the scenArio you put forth.

In short you have to have constant internet signal for the session to stay active

I tried this myself. After starting a session, I then disabled the wifi. For a few minutes all was well, then iLok manager started generating errors. Soon after PT said I should save my work or lose it as the session would close in 5 minutes. When I tried to save, PT then crashed.

It's the single biggest drawback with the Cloud. I have a 2nd non-HD license on my laptop which I just use for convenience for a few things - I'm trialing this in the Cloud, but wouldn't dream of using my main HD rig on it.

I didn’t see Protools 2018 in the forum sorry to put it on PT12.
I been working with my main HDX rig for the last days using the cloud cloud with no prob whatsoever but my Mac gets internet all the time. Last weekend I went to a town near by and started PT on my lap with WiFi on with no problems at all.

A friend of mine has a studio that's online 24/7, and I've never had problems with that. (not on iLok cloud, though).

In my experience, things will go swimmingly for days and weeks with the internet. Then one day - it's down, for whatever reason, or glitchy. For anyone who relies on PT for their living, you just can't afford to have a day when it doesn't work.

In my part of the world where the internet isn't exactly known for its stability, I'd hate to have to rely on the cloud to keep working... Being online all the time doesn't affect PT adversely, but it's another thing to have to depend on it for PT to work.
