Default Recommend a cheap audio A/D converter with s/pdif out

Hi,

I would like to use my mbox 2 to record 4 track simultaneously. So for that I will need to use the S/PDIF inputs on the mbox.

I know there are lots and lots of mixers out there with mic pre's on them that will convert A/D and have S/PDIF - but they can sometimes be costly

Can anyone recommend a nice and cheap one... like << $100 (If such a thing exists - and I know it wont be super audiophile at this price range)

I can even settle for something as simple as having with one line level stereo in and S/PDIF out.
I am literally looking for the simplest/cheapest solution to this problem.

I don't want to have to buy an expensive A/D mixer or rack.

Thanks

For that price, I would shop for an old DAT recorder. I paid $100 for a mint Tascam DA-20. Another option that includes 2 mic preamps is the ART Digital MPA.

When i looked in to is a few years back the cheapest option i could find was the Samson C-Valve which has SPDIF, you can even chain two of them together to use both channels. I never got one so cannot comment on the quality.

Samson stuff can be ok or it can be pretty naff but as this price point there isn't a wealth of choice.

Behringer had some type of rack unit called a SRC or something that would do this. A bud used to use it for the SPDIF inputs on his 002. Claimed it was transparent.

I don't know if you're looking for preamps also, but these are some inexpensive combination preamps/digital outs:

Thanks for the replies so far. there are some I might consider there, like behringer, or ART dual tube pre...
I wasn't necessarily looking for mic pre amps, but would be any harm either.

I like the look of the samson too, but as it only has 1 input I think I'd spend the bit extra on the ART Dual tube pre...
only thing is they're all > $100 - so I guess it's unrealistic to find one for around the 100 mark, other than second hand or old equipment.

Anyway, if anyone else has some suggestions, please let me know.

Still out of the 100.00 price range but I thought I would mention this.

I see these on line as B stock far cheaper. All 3 of my D8s were B stock from unique_squared that came with full factory warranty's. No problems with any of them. The XMAX Pres are not bad at all. Pretty sure this will also work as a interface with PT9 via Presonuses Universal Control software.

While I like shiny new stuff I'm not afraid of used stuff in the slightest. Especially for peripherals.
