Nov 2020 - so i guess hdx aaxdsp is NOT dying....

as the new CARBON interface is out... and I bet AVID sells a bunch of them...

and many people want to record with DSP plugins working...

.....including DSP AutoTune (just announced)

so now.... some more reason for plugin developers to support DSP plugs....

we shall see if more developers jump on board.

Avid should buy acustica or universal audio. I do like the concept of carbon but what aaxdsp solutions are going to compete with Uad plugs as far as tracking? the softube stuff possibly but they stopped aaxdsp development years ago.

Avid cannot leave aaxdsp development solely up to 3rd party developers. they need to get some new blood in the game to make people excited again. years ago having a dsp system also meant that you had the very best plugin around. not so much anymore.

other than autotune aaxdsp what aaxdsp plugin are you excited to trak through?

An interesting product but too expensive it seems, even when compared with the likes of the Universal Audio Apollo range.

The M1 is the real DSP killer though. No need for any DSP solutions. Hundreds of plugins natively at the lowest buffer settings without a raised fan to be heard. The future has arrived

"No need for any DSP solutions" = incorrect.

Want more than 32 i/o in ProTools, at one time, on one rig? You need HDX-DSP

Want to record an orchestra in ProTools, with more than 32 mics, and also play back prelay tracks, all with one rig, for speed? You need HDX-DSP

"For most people, no need for HDX-DSP" = correct.

Unfortunately there's not many recording orchestras these days

Many bands only use one or two inputs once the drums are recorded.

The halcyon days of recording are over for most and many of the bigger studios have closed. For those left, sure they can afford the Avid tax and go beyond the crippleware 32 track limit. Many others have given up on the high tax rates and switch DAWs or else run systems frozen in time.

It's pretty clear the way things are panning out with the M1 Macs that they will sell wholesale to audio and video professionals and hobbyists alike. Huge plugin counts, high track counts on minimal buffers for audio. What's not to like?

Now I think of it, even in the glory days of analog, most studios were limited to 24 track. Synced machine were rare and unwieldy. There might have been more mics up in the room of a big session but many were blended to tape. They would have loved the thought of a 32 track input limit!

I hope Avid do well with the Carbon. Whatever you have, make some nice music and enjoy

Stephen

with summing amps, a mixer and/or hardware inserts it is easy to blow past 64 i/o. Dsp solutions means no over dub issues while in the middle of a big mix.

Is there an upgrade path from Auto Tune Pro to Auto-Tune Hybrid?
It would be cool if more plugins came up as AAX DSP now tith the Carbon release.
Fab-filter for example, of course waves...Softubes new releases....
