Default SAN Storage

Hey all

I am in OS X (10.6.8) and I am thinking of upgrading my storage system, from multiple external hard drives (across three networked computers) to a 16TB SAN, be that a used Apple XSERVE or another alternative.

Does anyone know if OS X has any specific limitations of what kind of SAN it is connected to?

Has anyone tried such a system connected through Gigabit Ethernet, taking advantage of the RAM Cache feature in Pro Tools 10HD?

Can't remember if fibre is a connection option for Pro Tools 10HD but I will search the DUC around. It would be great to hear if any has a definitive answer though/
