Please help: Loud pops on Stop

Hi all, first post here. Somewhat experienced PT user.

Working on a session today with a lot of bass content. Whenever I hit stop over a point where the audio waveform is not at a zero-crossing, I get a very loud digital crack same as if a clip has been abruptly cut while the waveform was far from the zero-crossing.

A tiny playback fade in resolves issue when I hit start. But the constant, literally almost-tweeter-breaking, cracks on stop are incredibly distracting and concerning.

I get protools is playing back sample-accurate to where I hit stop - but are these cracks really meant to happen? Have had issues with this in past but this is 10x worse because of the bass-heavy nature of what I'm working on.

Happens on any interface including MacBook speakers. Tried different buffer sizes/sample rates/etc to no avail. No issue in Logic or Ableton. Desperate for an answer to this, I have search everywhere and cannot find one.

Just to let you know, I don't experience this pop crackling sound you mention, so Protools does not work this way for everyone. Is it only on this session or does it do this for all sessions. If you import a .wav or .MP3 file with no processing, does it still do it? Does it seem to be associated with a plugin?
