Default Will Windows 7 be okay with PT 12.6?

I have had PT 12 for a year now, I currently have PT version 12.6 on my laptop which is running Windows 10 but that isn't the best setup.

I am thinking of replacing my laptop soon with a desktop computer. I found a nice used desktop and monitor for sale locally for a sweet price, it has an i7 2600 quad core 3.4Ghz CPU and a 1 TB hard drive. It only has 8 GB of RAM installed but I will bump that up to 16 GB if I end up buying it.

The guy who is selling it said that it has Windows 7 on it presently but offered to replace it with Windows 10 if so desired. I'm kind of inclined to leave Windows 7 on there as long as PT 12.6 will get along ok with it.

What do you guys think?

The seller also offered to do a factory reset on his computer, that would probably be for the best I would imagine?

If I buy this thing, whenever I bring it to my computer guy I will ask him to copy everything from my laptop that I use for recording, PT 12.6 and all related third party plug-ins over to the desktop and hopefully get everything up and running right out of the gate if that's possible.

I finally have everything installed correctly and finally have no problems with the iLok 2 over the last couple of months. I hope I don't end up with major headaches when I try to replace the laptop with the desktop. I am not a computer geek by any means and get easily overwhelmed when things don't work when it comes to computers and software.

It's a good thing that the end results are worth the pain of dealing with technology.

Yes, if it means erasing hard drive contents and installing a fresh operating system. Remember to install all updates first, then install PT and plugins.

So, I might as well tell him to erase the hard drive and install Windows 10.

Thanks!

Using pt 12.4 HD on Windows 10 without issue.
2 things: when adding more RAM, make sure it all matches. Mismatched ram seems to be a show-stopper.
1TB hard drive is fine, but you still need a secondary hard drive to dedicate to recording/playback.

That's a good point about a second hard drive, apparently
that's really important.

I should make sure that a second hard drive will fit into this computer. It's a small form factor computer. If not, I would think that an external drive could be used if there's no room in there.

You cant just "copy" everything over. The installers have to be downloaded and installed. Also realize a 2600 is a seriously outdated CPU at this point. We are talking at least 6 years at this point. I hope you are getting it very cheap!

FWIW, 12.7.1 HD is running reasonably well on Windows 7 here.
