Default Boot time for Pro Tools on Windows

Some of us don't have a SSD and should be done booting by tomorrow night.

SSD is a cheap upgrade - and worth it too for the performance

spenner,

Let me second YYR123's comment. Without an SSD I couldn't get
the hutzpahbooie to even run PT10 on my little Presario. Good advice
from Albee got me going. And my boot time settled in at 6.5 minutes
after all optimizations and tricks known to the forum.

So, jokes aside, would you share what your boot time is? A number
I probably would have been thrilled to have gotten over the last 18 months....

The longest boot time of my i7 PC's is about 50 seconds. My core 2 quad boots in about 10-15 seconds. I have all WD Black and RE4 drives. They boot in the morning and shutdown at night. I'm fine with boot times. It was an old Windows boot joke.

Failed joke aside. I am excited about tomorrow night. I'm currently rock solid with PT 9.0.3 but could really use 64 bit. Perhaps finally I will be able to record and mix audio, access 20 GB RAM for VI's, and do it all in PT.

Seven seconds to get from my bios to my hacking Tosh shell

Seven seconds to get for Macintosh shell to my Apple gray screen

32 seconds to get from my Apple gray screen to my logon

But it's not just boot time that user interface is so much more snappier with an SSD and yes you literally can tell the difference

If you are having boot time issues...Make sure you exclude the Avid and/or Digidesign folders from your antivirus program. Once I did that, my boot time was reduced by at least 90%. It was scanning my plugin folder (each individual plugin!!) This was a huge help for me. Then I purchased an SSD and I am flying with PT 10 and a 5 year old laptop.

Ps. I was using Microsoft Security Essentials and had to exclude All AVID and DIGIDESIGN folders from scanning, which convinces the program that they are "Safe and Virus Free."

Here are a couple of ideas:

Get a dedicated drive just for your DAW. No internet, no AV, no facecakes. It's a hundred bucks for a good 128 SSD.

Next, if you like a platter HD or if you prefer an SSD, why create 10 pages on your HD choice? Is there something that will be gained? Why be so silly?
