Why would you pay all that premium for an X58 system and cripple it with a platter drive? Makes zero sense.
I honestly could care less about saving myself a minute or 2 when booting up or launching PT. there is typically plenty of other things I am doing at the same time. Ssd's will also decrease performance over time. There is also not much for standards as reliability go's. no way to know if you are going to get 1000 rewrites on a cell or 10,000 before performance decreases or cells die. I also have an average of 4 OS partitions per drive with a Removable bay system for my 2-3 OS drives. For my studio needs, ssd's are not there and or cost prohibitive.

While I'm sure sata 3 is a lot faster, I'm actually using sata 2 on my systems and see a great increase in speed. I could run my hack on a sata 3 bus, but I had to use the native sata 2 ports to install osx and never have moved they system drive over to sata 3. The rest of my systems only have sata 2. Guess I need to see if any of my cables are sata 3 and see how much I'm missing out on .

Tip of the week ma fren...got my PT to pop open real fast on the SSD now. I also told it not to scan .wavs as well. Kinda just poked around in MS Sec-E and did no harm and got much goodness.

There is no difference between a SATA 1, 2, or 3 cable. Google it

There is no such thing as SATA III cable. Google it

Who told you otherwise?

so if I buy a SATA6 cable, is it backwards compatible(will it work fine on Sata2 or SATA3 drives in the blue ports)?
haven't researched it but gotta believe they are...

there are certain things that are required to keep performance up for SSDs...one is to make sure they remain powered up and idle for up to 8hrs, say once every couple of months. this allows TRIM to function as designed...maintaining performance...at least this is the method for the Crucial M4...other SSDs might have different reqs for 'garbage collection'. and as for performance, an SSD along with disk cache might have you rethink your stance brotha Steve!!

I don't know ahoy the specs (cable) but when I got my gigabyte mobo - I got 3 cables with it and those actually said 6gb/s - and yes sir Dave white header correct

So they may be or maybe not be a difference (I am not the manufacturer) but I have some that say 6 (sata 3) and some that say 3 (sata 2)

So are u guys talking about poking around in the windows MS extensions ?

I have a host of things I haven't done on my hack to finish the project - but I had to get back to work - I'm sure that's very common huh
