Plugin Alliance VSM-3 has been my favorite for awhile now. Really amazing what it does to a mix.

A couple others I like & use are Dave Hill's Phoenix II tape plugin and Plugin-alliance Twintube. Can adjust both low & higher freq.'s. The hi freq has 4 settings: 2, 3, 6 & 10k. That way you can emphasize a certain portion of the tone.
Those features are cool, being able to add saturation to specific frequencies, but both of those plugs are well over my $90 budget. Would it be possible to create a chain with an EQ and AC that would allow u to apply AC to a specific frequency?

You can apply saturation to specific frequencies with TDR SlickEQ.

Saturation is a process that is totally personal taste-centric. I use and love SoundToys DeCapitator and still think that it is the best of the saturation plugins. The OP may not have the same opinion and should try as many versions of this kind of plugin before spending any money on anything. Almost all of them have demo versions. My two cents.

Yes demo them all...bc decapitator is way different than for example Slate VCC and Others.

They are not all created equal

Demo demo demo

Yeah I just read your first few posts Adam.

AC101 and 202 I believe it's called is a good smooth tape emulation

As far as smooth goes it's between that and the Slate VCC for me

Decap is a bit more aggressive type of saturation/distortion type of plug.

Right. I actually have SlickEQ GE, but like the person said a post or two above, each plug has it's own personality. I preface this without demoing any Analog type plugs yet, but I'd assume Analog Channel, as well as other plugs geared specifically for analog emulation have a superior saturation sound than SlickEQ.

Would it work if you create an Aux channel and put an EQ, set to a specific freq first, followed by the analog plug?

RSPE is running a Metric Halo Character sale, for just 30.00:

You can bundle it with their reverb for 45.00

Presuming without demoing is as smart as just throwing your money in a pit. There are many great and well proven plugins that I never use!
If you want saturation that you can easily hear go with Soundtoys, they have more than just Decap.

You misunderstood. I wrote that preface to say what you just wrote, in less words.. apparently too little. Basically saying that if I do end up like one of the demos better than SlickEQ, can you still eq a specific freq with the method I wrote out
