analog section on PC
Hey there,
My engineer and I were discussing the pros and cons, like and dislikes of the analog section on the PC. Who likes it? Who doesn't? Aside from the image shifting monitor pot, I think it's fine. My engineer doesn't seem to trust it, especially the headphone output. What do you think?

Re: analog section on PC
I like it ... just got a new procontrol and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
at some point there were some issues with the first series but it got fixed and it works great now. there's no image shifting pots, no clicking switches, the only thing which is better on the Control 24 is the surround monitoring features ....

Re: analog section on PC
I'm also curious about this. Any other comments? I've searched for prior posts, and have found all of the monitor board/image shifting pot/polarity reverse topics, but what about the broader question:
If your ProControl analog section is up to date and working properly, is it sonically and functionally good enough for stereo control room monitoring? |

Re: analog section on PC
I'm more than happy with my procontrol as my sole monitoring enviroment for stereo. Currently producing an album recorded and mixied in Protools with the procontrol and after monitoring the tracking stage via an SSL I'm very comfortable completing the project solely with my procontrol. My only real niggle is the mono switch not dropping the monitor level by 3db when instanced.

Re: analog section on PC
I dont like it at all!
I know I'm going to be asked to qualify this and I don't know if I can, but I noticed it immediately when I got the pro control. I was previously using a Dact passive attenuator between an 888 and a pair of Dynaudio bm6a's. I have replaced the main monitor section pot and that has made a slight difference, but I'm still not convinced. I was actually getting distortion at low levels from that pot. I think it's inconsistant, and the sound is poor unless it's at about 12 o'clock. Some people complain about problems with this section, bearing in mind the cost of the unit. Frankly I wouldnt use it at all if I had enough outputs to just send separate pairs to my different monitors/cans etc. Jack |
