Default Pro Tools 12.5 is utter garbage and I wish I'd stayed on 11.3.1

Want to launch ProTools? That'll work every 5th or 6th try. Want to close out of a session? Enjoy a crash instead! Want Crash Reporter to report that to Avid? Oh, Crash Reporter will never not crash itself. Want to run Sonnox Inflator? Good luck with that! Want to download/install any updates to 12.5 that perhaps address these bugs or just jiggle the general handle and make SOMETHING work better? Too bad, you'll have to pay for the subscription service to even update the current version you're running. What is even going on, Digi? Mega-whackness.

1. reinstall 11 (will take 30 secs, you saved the installer right?)
2. update to 10.10.5
3. get rid of the fusion drive

I ran on 10.10.5 with very few issues.

I am also running 12.8 on Sierra with very few issues.

Are you interested in finding solutions? Or just wishing you stuck with 11?

He is offering solid info my man.

Fusion Drives are known to cause issues.

And yep 10.10.5 was a great Mac Experience

Thanks for the info! Especially regarding the Fusion drives. Had no idea about that. Defs interested in solutions. Some features that came with 12 (like Track Commit) I'm finding incredibly helpful, so now that I'm used to those, I'd rather not step backward to 11. Ultimately, I'll probably just have to sign up for the subscription plan and see if 12.8 is more stable, but will do more research on Fusion drives and perhaps ditch that. Also just realized I need to update my system specs as I'm already running 10.10.5.

Of the 12 series of releases, I find 12.5 to be my least favorite. I would go with 12.4 or the latest 12.8.1. (Just one opinion.)

Also good to know! Had installers for 12.4 and 12.5 in my account and figured the latest would be the greatest. If I decide not to jump to 12.8, maybe I'll delete 12.5 and install 12.4. Cheers!

Unistall old version, Reboot, Download new version, reboot, extract new version reboot, Install new version, Reboot. Never had a problem with any version of Pro Tools with this method of installing a new version of Pro Tools

Update: tossed 12.5, installed 12.4 and things are running WAY better. Still getting CPU overload error messages all the time (as I was before) but now at least I know it's related to the Fusion drive. Contacted Apple support to see if they'll swap that out for me since I didn't order it in the first place. They "did me a favor" and upgraded me to a Fusion because at the time I ordered, they were phasing out the current i7 processor, and instead of contacting me to inquire, they put in a newer i5 and the upgraded boot drive to "make things even."

Apologies for taking this thread a little sideways but I have to ask you Daniel - a while back I had three boot partitions on my iMac (OSX 10.8.5, OSX 10.9.5 and OSX 10.10.2). The latter was unstable as all get out so I deleted that partition. Now I'm seeing more and more of the plugins I use that to use the latest versions I need a minimum of Yosemite. Is the version you're running really stable enough for production work? And under what PT versions?

I would concur that 10.10.5 was a great OS X. 10.12.5 is just as good if not better and certainly more snappy and responsive.

I found PT12.5 pretty nasty too and went back to 11.3.1 or whatever the last version 11 was. PT12.6.1 and 12.8.1 have both been VERY good to me. A lot of people seem to like 12.6.1 especially VI users. Personally I found 12.7 a complete nightmare.

Yeah get rid of the fusion drive!
