Default Problem with Core audio manager, 002r, and 8.0.1?

Anyone have an issue where - when you open anything that requires the core audio manager - a 002r switches from 44.1 to 48 kHz when its not supposed to?

A little backstory then the issue:

My 002r has been stored for a couple months as I built my studio. In the meantime, I was running a down and dirty setup with my Mbox 2 pro. Before I put my 002r in storage, I had installed and run sucessfully PT8 up to cs3 with it.

While it was stored, I installed 8.0.1 onto my machines (G5 and MBP) and ran that version with my Mbox 2 pro just fine.

When I racked the 002r, I opened itunes - just to make sure all the connections were fine - and encountered the problem I outlined above. I tested 4 scenarios, and here are the results:

1.) Simply opening iTunes. sampling rate switches from 44.1 to 48 (internally clocked). iTunes plays and the pitch is not affected, i.e., no sampling rate mismatch.

2.) I open the Core Audio manager by itself. The 002r switches to 48 kHz. I go to the HW setup, switch it to 44.1 (internally clocked), leave the C.A.M. open, launch iTunes, the 002r does not switch to 48k, and there are no pitch alterations.

3.) I externally clock the 002r to the rosetta (open C.A.M. by itself, switch to 44.1 from the 48 its now opening to, then switch to s/pdif), leave the C.A.M. open, and open iTunes. The 002r stays at 44.1, and there are no pitch alterations.

4.) I externally clock the 002r to the rosetta (open C.A.M. by itself, switch to 44.1, switch to s/pdif), close the Core Audio manager, and open iTunes. The 002r "44.1" light blinks, itunes plays, and the pitch is lowered - sampling mismatch.

In short, anytime I open CAM manually or it is opened by an app that needs it, it now defaults to 48k... Since the Mbox 2 pro doesn't use the C.A.M., I've not noticed this til now.

Internal or external clock choices inside pro tools itself are no problem.

I have trashed all prefs with the pref and database helper, and repaired permissions.

This is happening with both machines that have 8.0.1.

I am not - per Digi's recommendations - downloading the standalone C.A.M...

Has this been noted as a problem with 8.0.1 and 002rs?

Many thanks, all!

Nathan Lowe

Yes, there are several threads on this already on the DUC - just do a search for 'core audio 8.0.1' and/or 'CAM'.

We're working on a fix, btw.

Doh. Don't I feel a douche... Sorry to be redundant; I usually don't do that... Didn't do my due diligence. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...

Digitus meus, ex toto corde poenitet me omnium meorum peccatorum, eaque detestor, quia peccando, non solum poenas a Te iuste statutas promeritus sum, sed praesertim quia offendi Te, summum dawum, ac dignum qui super omnia diligaris. Ideo firmiter propono, adiuvante gratia Tua, de cetero me non peccaturum peccandique occasiones proximas fugiturum. Amen.
