Default Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

Pro Tools doesn't seem to support 1080p/59.94 video according to this link:

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/c...ions-and-rates

This will probably explain why Pro Tools won't play the video file. You may end up needing to use 720p/59.94 DNxHD video as reference while you work in Pro Tools and perform the layback to the 1080p video file in another program afterwards.

We have had trouble with QuickTimes from Premiere forever. I read here awhile ago that mxf files from Premiere seem to work better than mov, so we tried that today on a new project. It plays back great, but there's no way to import the audio. The client is sending wav files for guide tracks. Is that really the only way to get a guide track?

Adobe Media Encoder can pull the WAV files from an MXF for you.

Thanks. I've downloaded the free version of Reason, which can probably do it, too. Anyone care to guess if Fairlight (now owned by Blackmagic) is going to make another play at Pro Tools' dominance?

I hope Blackmagic and Steinberg continue to give Avid some DAW competition! Makes the market healthier and more interesting.

I remember too well when the "pro" in Pro Tools was widely considered to be ironic, back when the WaveFrame and Sonic Solutions (and digital standalone consoles, digital dubbers, etc) ruled the day. I'm always keeping an eye out for the Pro Tools killer. I gotta think Yamaha is posing a more serious threat right now with Nuendo and Steinberg.

I would expect Fairlight to have a serious go at PT, and Media Composer, in the future. New features are being added all the time. I only use it for basic work on the videos' guide track as I'm so used to PTs' way of working. I edit in Resolve and export the picture as DNxHD 36 1080 50p which runs great in PT. Then the finished audio is imported into Resolve for the final video render.

I'm digging Resolve's free edition so far. Learning curve as always (especially for an audio guy working on video software), but I've been thinking our next system would be Nuendo and now I'm considering Fairlight. That software had a seriously fast workflow back in the day.

BTW, we'll never give up on Pro Tools until Hollywood does. We gotta know and use the Kleenex brand.
