But to summarize, if you let your plan lapse, and then sign up, Avid is going to make you pay for the time you lapsed (Prorated, so if you were off 10 months, you'd pay $499, PLUS the next year $599 plus a $149 'reinstatement penalty'. So let it lapse 10 months, and you're looking at $1247 to get back 'current'.

Let it lapse say 2 years and you're looking at $1946...
I just decided to stay on PT 10 forever. It works great for me, I need nothing more to record, mix and produce music, and I don't care even if Avid will invent the DAW over again. I honestly don't think there is much more to ask from a DAW the way things are today (other than it to work smoothly) - I think it's about time we all stopped this upgrade race and concentrated on our work.

I am not paying even one more cent if that's the way it works.

Each one will do what's best for him, but paying that much per year just to get 2 more "features" you don't really need, and support you never needed or used in more than 10 years of use? Or being fined if you don't?

No thanks...

I think the $599 should give you access to Heat and all Pro Series plugins while you are up to date with the subscription.
Its a premium subscription and should come with premium benefits

The minimum. Otherwise HD is doomed.

I could be on board with this. Something has to differentiate those of us who ponied up the cash for the cards. I couldn't do what I do without a card - surround and very high track count film/TV mixing.

I bought 11 and 12, and indeed the differences are infinitesimal. It is better to buy additional plug-ins or other utility.

And then people like me who purchased those plugins get another slap in the face for supporting Avid.

The solution is the price needs to come down and the penalties go away (or at least come way, way down).

You are correct if you purchased the plugins it would feel improper to give value to hd users.
But adding input monitoring, heat and other HD features would then fell hard to swallow for HD users.
So since everything is shifting some creative compromises may have to be considered.
Possibility is Avid will not take on such an approach at all.

Avid give us, HD owners, so many possibilities to spend money. They are absolutely fantastic at that. As long as we ever want to update to a newer version we have to pay $599 a year, because if we don't, an update will cost us even more. They give us the opportunity to buy Pro plugins, they let us buy HEAT in the most recent version. Just wonderful. Also, they give out HD features to non-HD license holders so we can be closer to them, we can be friends we them. Very generous company. Avid, I love you!
