Default Greyed out volume, not responding to volume changes

Hi All, I've just accidently pressed an odd combo of buttons whilst trying to juggle and edit at the same time, now the word VOLUME is in italics on my edit page and the track does not respond to the volume line/changes.
what did i do? and how do i get it back?
