They are slowly shifting the video engine to the one used in Media Composer (which is fully 64 bit.) Down the line this could be a really good thing as there will be on development team for this at Avid. But it looks like they are having issues still on integrating that engine with certain codecs so the Quicktime engine is still present. I'm guessing it is still there mostly for us who haven't/won't move to Catalina and still need support for those codecs in the interim while they work on fixing the Avid MC engine.
