Re: Updating 2018.2 to 2019.5
You don't have a HD Native or HDX system so it does not apply to you. It's the device drivers for that hardware.

Re: Updating 2018.2 to 2019.5
Just noting here that i installed over 18.10 using Avid Link without uninstalling on three PC's with no issues.

Re: Updating 2018.2 to 2019.5
If you're on Mac, re-name the previously installed version "Pro Tools 2018.2", then install the new version and you'll have both. If you use Peter Gates' PT Prefs app, it is pretty easy to back up your old prefs to an external location. Then if your prefs get corrupted for the new version and you need to go back, you can reload an old, untouched, set of prefs.

Re: Updating 2018.2 to 2019.5
and me who thought 2018.12 was excellent !
WOW .... 2019.5 just rocks !!! the CPU cores spread the load all across the board in a seamless way ... the meters even seem more responsive ! the whole thing is much much better eventhough it was awesome before ! I am running High Sierra btw .... I tried the continuous playback it's good ... but you can always hear some crackles when inserting a plugin though ... but i must say GREAT JOB !
