Recording level vs playback level..
Whenever I record vocals, I notice that playback volume is a few dB louder than recording volume. I can't imagine that this would be a hardware issue but you never know. I tried looking for a setting in PTLE8 but couldn't find anything.
My chain is Neuman U87 -> Great River NV2 -> DIGI002R. Any thoughts? |

Re: Recording level vs playback level..
That's a head scratcher. Have you measure this or is it just that it seems louder. I have never noticed it on my system. I assume you are recording to an audio track with no plugins involved? Are you in Low Latency mode? Just trying to get an idea of what might cause this.

Theres an option to unlink playback/record faders in the prefs.

OP needs to explain how he knows that playback is louder (meters, ears, whatever) The meters can also be pre or post fader..

Re: Recording level vs playback level..
Sorry guys, I've been busy at work. I'm not using any metering. I can definitely hear that it is different.
Here is my track setup. I have four or so mono tracks all bussed to an aux input track that has the an RVox and a TL Space plugin. This is just so I have a consistent sound on playback when auditioning each take. It's an obvious difference in volume when playing back. Where is the fader unlinking option? I don't think I notice this effect when recording instruments but I can't be sure. I'm going to try doing this without plugins to see if it behaves the same way. |

Re: Recording level vs playback level..
Are you isolated from the singer during tracking?
The unlink fader preference in actually in the Preferences... Not in the Menus. Don't remember which tab, but probably General or Operation tab..

Re: Recording level vs playback level..
The reason I can hear it is because I am the singer. I have to turn up the volume while recording and back it down when playing back. I haven't had a chance to experiment with it yet. Probably on Thursday.
