Default AVALON VT-737SP

I have the opportunity to buy one of these barely used... anyone have any real world experience with these unit.

We have one at the studio where I work, it's a nice preamp but I've determined that it sounds only as good as the mic you pair it with. Things like the room and it's acoustics come into play as well. If you get a good deal on it, it's definitely worth having in your arsenal, it's a ubiquitous pre which is used on so many albums, you'll just have to experiment with mics, placement, etc.

Thanks. I will most likely use it with a Rode NTK or Blue Bottle...

I have one, and I like it. I like it for vocals, and love it for guitar and bass DI.

And it's the most beautiful piece of gear in my rack.

It sounds as good as it looks too. Pair it up with a 47 or an 87 and WOW

Of course, if the singer sucks...

Great machine. We had one in our Manhattan studio - used it all the time for acoustic guitar and vocals.
