Default Pops & Crackles

My goodness,
I've got a Lenovo laptop, 16 gigs ram,Intel i7, recording to separate hd. All of a sudden, I've got pops and crackles on a vocal track.. Out of nowhere. I have an mBox3, USB interface but I don't seem to be anywhere near clipping. Playback engine at 128 and no plugs other than sends to verb & delay.. CPU usage has a peg up once in awhile for some reason, i don't have many plugs going, but seems under control.. I'm gonna try another mic thinking it could be that, but why all of a sudden?? Anyone have any ideas I could check out?? Thanks in advance,Richrdc

What you have is the absolute minimum to run Pro Tools nowadays, I know because that's what I have, however I don't have any issues. Have you tried the recommended optimizations, removing all 3rd party plugins from the plugin folder, trashing preferences, trying a different buffer size, etc?

uncheck "ignore errors during playbac/record" in the playback engine setup window. You may have to increase your buffer size.

Hey Emi, Unchecking the 'Ignore errors during playback/record did the trick. Thanks again for the help.. Just a question of symantics now.... Could these clicks and pops be defined by another word...... artifacts? It seems I've heard this word used. I'm also wondering if any folks have had issues with popping & crackling sounds when recording a track that has had AutoTune 8 work done, as in going over a vocal, using AT8 where needed and then copying the track to another track?

Clicks & pops are artifacts so yes. I don’t even know why Avid keeps this preference within pro tools engine. Imagine you’re tracking and the best take has clocks & pops, I rather pro tools to stop.
