I better stay at 2020.5 but no updates for me

This has been reported. I've started a ticket for you as well. Will post more info as we move forward.

In 2020.5 in System Usage window shows Voices 128/128.
in 2020.9 shows 64/64.
I can not open 2020.5 projects
Any chance you could post screenshots of this please?

Thanks,

Mike

Project was created in 2020.5 or maybe one version before, all 48khz. Luckily this project was finished some days before... not funny.

I think I always had 256 voices not matter what there is montioned 128 on there website. Its not acceptable to update and loose half of your voices. All of my client's projects can't be edited any more....

Just tested Pro Tools Ultimate 2020.9 and the voice / track count is the same in 2020.5. Looks like regular PT has only been affected.

Ouch. I have several sessions in the 60 stereo track range that would be crippled with 2020.9. How could this have happened?

Also, it used to be you could get around track limits by disabling unused tracks. But somewhere along the line (can’t recall what version) AVID decided this was being too nice and track limits are now enforced regardless of disabled tracks.

Vanilla was 128 mono OR stereo OR a combination of both. It didn’t matter as long as it didn’t exceed 128.

I can’t imagine this halving of tracks is deliberate. It’s more than likely a bug... a pretty bad one though. Not the kind of thing you want to be waiting around another 3 months for it to be fixed. They’d wanna issue an update straight away.

CS releases anyone?

I guess they will start the track count game again... I think for this version someone made a mistake. But future versions of standard Pro Tools will have voice packs like Ultimate has, I guess.

They could get stuck in an interesting trap with that. So there's a showstopper bug ... what if someone had the update plan valid until today and they release a bug fix tomorrow? The person has literally not got what they've paid for, so they would have to give them the bugfix for free or face legal action. But then one can start arguing that the bugfixes in 2020.9 should be free to anyone who had the versions that the bugs were introduced in, because those products were not as advertised. Bug fixes do not equals new features.

edit: also WTF is with that splash screen
