Default fed up with dealing with connection to mbox

Has anybody else had issues with the connection from the computer to the mbox pro? Here I am this morning, in the middle of a big project and the mbox pro wasn't recognized by my computer–out of nowhere! This happens periodically every several months for no apparent reason and I am tired of it.

I had to use the "faulty" adapter that Avid provides to utilize the firewire port in my mac. The other end of the connection (cord-->mbox pro) is extremely loose and always has been. You'd think avid would at least make the connection to the mbox pro firm, alas no.

So after I shutdown, unplugged and replugged everything, and rebooted the computer, it once again recognizes the mbox pro. But ProTools still won't start. Either it "quits unexpectantly every time I attempt to start it or I get the following message:

"Pro Tools could not initialize the current playback device. Please make sure that the device has been configured correctly."

Well, it was working fine yesterday and I sure haven't changed any configurations since.

If anybody can help out with the remnant of my issue I'd appreciate it. Or if anybody can share any info about the "faulty" connections I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks!

Thank you, yes it worked. But I feel the heart of the issue is the connection. What can I do about this? As I said, it happens periodically for no apparent reason. Does anybody else suffer with this issue?

If I do not turn my Mbox3 on and let it get warmed up and lit before I turn on my iMac, Pro Tools does not recognize it.

Once in a while I have to replug in the cable, too.

Hey,

So a couple things I would say... one, Id get a new cable and If it is not flush and nice and tight then return it.

As far as PT not wanting to open it is because what happened when it lost communication with the MBox it defaulted the playback engine to something else... in your case it was probably Aggregate I/O since it would not open. I have had this default to my motherboard sound card and Aggregate... to fix this you simply hold down the N key while launching Pro Tools and then make the MBox the playback engine again... Now it will launch and use that hardware.

It is a pain but hope you find a cable solution to solve your headache.

Ive seen this on two rigs ive put together.
Swapped that embarrassing silly adapter for a correct purpose built 400-800 cable, and still getting sporadic "recognition"

Hey, I'm just seeing these now. Thanks. The cord I have now is anything but tight. In fact, I have it propped up because it has the tendency to lean (at both ends) effectively pulling itself out over time. If it is a defective cord, out of the box) Avid should replace it for gratis. Thanks again.

Same thing here. I have a portable rig I use sometimes with and mBox pro and it's SO unreliable...
