misbehaving 003 please help
Hi
I have a 003 on a mac running os x and pt 9. It was fine yesterday but when I booted up today the host 1394 light on the front was flashing (- the one on the rear of the unit is solid) and protools cant find the 003. Interestingly enough system preferences on the mac can find it so i'm figuring it might not be the firewire - although I cant get itunes to play through the 003 either. So far I have rebooted (several times) and I have swapped the cable between the firewire ports at the back of the 003 (with it off!) but to no avail. Any help gratefully received. Thanks |

Re: misbehaving 003 please help
Try re installing the drivers. Make sure you have latest drivers from here and install with 003 turned off, then reboot with it switched on and you should get a message saying windows is installing drivers then "Your Hardware is Ready to Use".
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...3=1450&Hilite= You may also want to try a different firewire port but DO NOT hot wire. Make sure computer AND 003 is turned off when connecting/disconnecting firewire cable. Also try reinstalling firewire drivers. Control Panel>Device Manager>IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers. Double Click on controller>Driver Tab>Update Driver>Search Automatically. Do this for each controller listed. The above instructions are for PC so you'll have to translate method to Mac.

Re: misbehaving 003 please help
Its the firewire chip. Guarantee it.
Send it back for warrranty work. If no warranty, PM me know several folks that can replace it for far, far less than a new FW card. Last check replacement was about 400$

Re: misbehaving 003 please help
When you say that PT cannot see the 003, what exactly do you mean? When you got to playback engine, is the 003 listed as the playback device or is it set to aggregate or one of the other settings?
