Default problem with guitar pedals

hi all, i'm a newb and this might be a newb question but for some reason i can't get any sound to my mbox when using a pedal. i've got my guitar plugged in to the input on the pedal and there are 2 outputs, one that says amp and one that says mixer. so i plug in my head phones to the amp output and it's all working fine but when i hook it up to the mbox through the mixer output no sound seems to get to the mbox. and i know my mbox is working fine because i've recorded without the pedal. and i don't have a decent amp or a mic, and it will be at least a month before i can get them, so i can't do it that way. so anyway if anyone knows how to fix this or if i'm doing something wrong, any info would be appreciated.

Go from the pedal's amp output to the DI on the Mbox. Then use your headphones from the Mbox.

Work the Mic/DI switch on the Mbox. Maybe its in the wrong position for the DI(quarter inch) input? Make sure you have the MIX knob adjusted to hear the incoming audio and adjust the GAIN knob as needed.
