Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Hello.
I wish to find a solution to my legal and authorized Waves SSL and API bundles crashing PTMP everytime I try to insert an instance of those in any track. Rest of Waves plugs family works good (I own also the Platinum bundle). This issue occurs to me in ANY subversion of PT MP 7.4. I updated to cs7 hoping that the problem would cure itself, but to no avail. One question I have is WHY does Digi insist of coding with Delphi and such crappy environments. The PT code for Win at least is largely demonstrated to be such a nightmare, and I KNOW what I'm talking about; I'm not precisely any IT naive if you ask. It's just the most buggy inner code that I've felt in years. Mac is other thing, but for Win XP they've always sucked, and although I really think PT8 has fixed this code-nightmare from scratch, no Delay Compensation makes it yet a deal breaker for me. I just will settle into 7.4 (IF I find solution to this crashing of my $XXXX plug-ins investment, of course). So, just having put this off my chest, here are all the tech details of my problem, so that Digi support can't have the now typical "missing tech info" excuse to their support efforts: I'm just SO fed up with crashes such as this. Can't remember a SINGLE instance from 6.X on in which users haven't reported innoportune crashes and stuff like that. Buggy code for the most part is to blame, I insist. In contrary case, Digi would not be launching off 5-digit internal release numbering in their ZIPs and RARs for updates. Here are all the technical details: ----------------- Machine, PT, Waves and iLok auth details: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU 17700 @2.40GHz OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 RAM: 3GB OS and apps drive: Western Digital 320GB (SATA,2.5inch) WD3200BEVT-00ZCT0 PT sessions drive: LaCie 1TB (FW800), model Little Big Disk Quadra PT version: M-Powered 7.4cs7 (most recent) Audio interface: M-Audio NVR10, FireWire Driver v32_5.10.00.5054v2 (most recent) Waves SSL & API bundle version: 6.0.5 (most recent, installed from Waves Complete Bundle download) iLok holding Waves Licenses: serial 0x00068296, 9711-56223-00 Rev.A (same that came with M-Powered) iLok user account ID: moises Other Waves plugs authorized BUT not crashing within PT-MP: Platinum Bundle (same iLok as SSL & API) Trancription of Windows crash log -obtained when trying to instantiate Waves SSL/API in PT-MP: ================================================== ============================================ Error signature: EventType: BEX P1: P2: 0.0.0.0 P3: 00000000 P4: unknown P5: 0.0.0.0 P6: 00000000 P7: 00000000 P8: c0000409 P9: 00000000 Following are two extra messages for the content of files: appcompat.txt manifest.txt from the Windows XP error log window. Please do so, as well as using the Tech Support Utility to generate a plug-in version list and post that in your reply as well. |

Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Moises,
Did you also install the Waves Update in addition to the latest installer? I think your product version WaveShell should be 6.0.6. For me, the latest Waves installer got me to 6.0.5 and the updater took it to 6.0.6. Visit the Waves web site for details. Hope this helps, Greg |

Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Thank you, Digi Support. I'll try to capture the Sandra report and post it in the thread mentioned.
Greg, thanks for your input too. I was not aware of any Waves update. I updated to V6 about two months ago and all went fine, except now that I installed my PT-MP for trying my brand new NRV10 from M-Audio. It's only there that the Waves stuff crashes. I also discovered yesterday that SOME of the platinum plugs crash as well. It appears as if I instantiate two Waves plugs at the same time, PT-MP freezes. But I can't see the exact pattern yet. I'll try to get any updates to Waves and see what happens. I'll also post the Sandra details where appropriate. I just did suppose that writing down my system overall configuration would give some clue. Oh patience.... |

Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Hi Greg and Digi techies.
I updated Waves to 6.0.6 as Greg suggested, to no avail. I deinstalled all plugs and all PT stuff (I happen to own Music Prod. Toolkit too, as I said, I've spent quite a few bucks in their products), including deleting preferences and also a manual search for older, crappy Registry entries relating to Digidesign stuff. To no avail. Waves is not probably the cause of these crashes, since they work like a champ in my OS X partition as well as in other hosts I have authorized and updated in Windows partition. As I mention in my lenghtly Sandra results post, I have this PT-MP installed in the Win XP SP2 via Boot Camp in my MBP 17inch, all things and firmware etc updated. iLok updated. Waves updated. All system tweaks updated. The only problem I'm having in this XP SP2 system is Waves when instantiated in PT-MP 7.4csX. Any sense? They're going to be calling me names, but as long as I know, all the software I used in XP SP2 in my old PC machine works pretty good, all the same in this "Windowized" MacBook Pro. Except PT-MP when trying to instantiate some Waves plugs (all the SSL, all the API, and also some of the Platinum such as Enigma and others, I've found). No sense. I hope some help reaches me somehow. Regards to all who read these threads :) |

Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Sorry, but we do not support Pro Tools on Bootcamp - without proper testing of that configuration, we do not have any data to determine whether it will or won't work properly.
Maybe someone with the same system can comment if they are working successfully with Waves plug-ins and Pro Tools M-Powered. Is there a particular reason you're not using this in OS X?? |

Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Hi again.
As I said in the other thread, I have a dual-boot MBP system. OS X 10.5.5 works fine with my PT-LE, and I reserved the Win XP for PT-MP. I really prefer it that way, in part due to other constraints I follow for my projects, such as e.g. using some other tools during my sessions with PT-MP, that I have only available for XP. This does not change the fact that, taking the Boot Camp variable apart, PT-MP works good, plays back and records pretty fine except for the Waves plugs instances. All SLL, all API and some Platinum plugs lock the PT-MP up, or it crashes. It gives the usual Win diagnostic throw-up. So the problem seems not to be the chipset, not the processor, not the drives (plays and records beautifully). Waves could not be the problem since all their plugs that I own work good in all the other hosts that support them. Any ideas? |

Have you tried doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of the Waves plug-ins? Have you contacted Waves to see if they may have any info on possible causes? What about the steps in the General troubleshooting thread - like making sure any unnecessary services and startup items are disabled and/or enabling any ones that may be needed for Waves to work properly? In looking at reports similar to yours (doing a Google search there are a number of causes - viruses, trojans and missing or corrupted OS files. Re: Waves 6 (SSL and API) crashing on MP 7.4cs7
Hello again.
Now, I've got some useful additional info on the Waves plug-ins crash in M-Powered 7.4 -maybe Tech Support guys can work out something for this issue. The error is that, when trying to instance some Waves 6.0.6 plug-ins such as e.g. Enigma, or SSL Collection, Pro Tools M-Powered crashes and gives the all-known Windows error with the sending report option and that. I've tried a lot of combinations here for OS variable. Since I was having the issue in my Win XP partition created via Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz 'Santa Rosa' laptop, I've been said by Tech Support that it's not officially supported. I tried to change other variables, because PT MP works beautifully in all other respects, all Digi bundled plugs work fine. I also own pro bundles such as DUY plugs, and a couple URS licenses. It seems to me that system compatibility it's not the issue here. I installed the SP 3 update for Win XP, to no avail. Same crashing in same Waves 6.0.6 plugs. I installed btw the update Waves to 6.0.6, all new iLok drivers for PACE, etc. I even tried installing further MS C++ redistributable updates available on MS site. Same error with same Waves plugs. Fortunately, plugs such as Q4, Q10, or the full API collection which I also own, are good. But SSL all of them, and Enigma and some others from Platinum bundle (which is updated to the last as I said before) crash this way too. I formatted the Win XP SP2 partition. Installed SP 2 anew, fresh install. No other drivers or plugs apart from the NRV10 drivers which behave 100% OK, and PT MP 7.4. Tried and same crash issue. Also with any of the further MP 7.4CS updates from Digi. Formatted again, did a fresh install of MP 7.3 this time. ALL WENT FINE. NO WAVES CRASHING. So it's giving us some clue here that maybe Waves is not the culprit here. I go on in the next post, since this is getting out of space. Thanks for reading. |
