Thanx for reply.
I don't see how your left-heavy problem could be fixed
with calibrating your speakers...

I don't run my nears at extremely low level much and I don't fuss much with my global monitoring level during a session so by trimming the input on my left Genelec back a tiny bit I was able to pull the image pretty close to what I hear as centered (My mix imaging seems to translate to other systems alright for now).
No, not a fix but a workaround until I come up with something better.

Have a good week!

Venue,

Thanx for candid reply, much appreciated.
I understand your workaround...

Also, IMHO Digidesign should come up with the fix, not you.

Can someone comment on whether this calibration thing
falls within of what we should expect from this product?

If I understand things correctly from Venues post, the "upgrade" will not fix this problem either.

I guess I am asking semi-philosofically so that we can get on with life and buy something else for the monitoring section
or still have hopes that Digi will fix this.

best regards
janne a.

Would someone at Digi please respond? For 12k you could at least give us your thoughts on a fix. Thank you

Digi, this thread has been going on for about a month, and you haven't had the courtesy to offer one response. This isn't a rant about expensive 'y' cables, etc., but a real problem with your top of the line professional mixing surface/console. Are you aware of this problem? Seriously. Please give us an answer and possible solution. Or at least let us professional consumers know you are working on a fix.

I'll add to the pile and confirm the same problem with our studio.

We have a ProControl and Genelec 1029's, with no woofer. Same problem as michael c described: even running the Genelec's trim pots at 50% of their range, with the ProControl's Main(1-6) CR pot set at 9 o'clock leads to an A-weighted SPL of 87dB in the room.

This would be just fine if, I humbly suggest, the left channel of the ProControl wasn't 1.5 dB heavy at its 9 o'clock position.

To state the obvious, this is just bloody stupid.

And the Genelecs like to be pushed hard; they sound best turned up past 75-80%, but that can't happen in this room, without permanently damaging the humans. Hell, we can't even keep them at 50%.

So what's the solution? Turn the Genelec's down to, what, 25%? Or less? Which of course leads to a very noticeable difference in response below 400 Hz, and a general poorer feel to the image clarity? Recalibrate the Genelec's trim pots individually, to correct for the ProControl's ridiculous imaging defect? Enjoy a proper stereo image, and a nicer Genelec trim pot level, at a constant 95+ dB in the CR?

Or, perhaps, get the ProControl repaired by Digidesign AT NO CHARGE to bring its basic audio engineering capabilities up to a level with, oh, I don't know, my $300 Mackie 1202?

Silly me. This is Digi we're talking about....

Hey, Digi, check your history books about the extinction of the dinosaurs. Hiding amongst the brush, I can spot these tiny little mammals with names like Logic, and Cubase, and Nuendo, and Vegas.

Adapt or die.

I've got the same problem here,I think the problem is that digi doesn't want to admit that this is not exceptable for the money spent.I feel it's not and they should correct the problem,I read a post a while back where someone from digi(don't remember who)was talking about how fixing everyone's procontrols for free just wasn't feasable.Well had I know it was not designed right in the first place I think would have thought twice about the purchase.
Don't sell something that doesn't work properly!!If you think that this problem is only a few people being picky, ask other engineers if they would find this inconsistency exceptable.I don't think so.

Digi know people check here before buying, they will get back to us. They are just having a post 5.1 cigarette.
