PLugin issues
I am new to plugins but I recently purchased Autotune and the Maserati Bundle from waves. I noticed especially with the waves that my laptop cpu was getting taxed hardcore. I have PTLE 7.3.1 which is not supported by the Maserati bundle but I've seen other people use it.
Anyways, I figure that I'll try to see what I can do about my 5 yr old laptop-if there is anything possible-before I look into a newer computer. Previously I was able to put as many of the digi stock plugs I wanted, without problem. When I got autotune, I noticed I could put about 5 or 6 of those up in addition to the digi stock. When I got the Maserati plugs, they sounded awesome and I couldn't resist buying them but I can't put more than 2 or 3 without cpu errors and they're really glitchy. Any suggestions on where to start, in solving these issues? Would it make a major difference to upgrade to PT 8? Do I need a better video card? Oh yeah, I disable the internet network adapter everytime I use PT. And I have an OWC external drive that I record to via eSATA SiSoftware Sandra Computer Model : Dell MP061 Workgroup : WORKGROUP Host Name : bob-652c896bfda User : pt Processor Model : Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2500 @ 2.00GHz Speed : 2GHz Cores per Processor : 2 Unit(s) Threads per Core : 1 Unit(s) Type : Mobile, Dual-Core Integrated Data Cache : 2x 32kB, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way, 64 byte line size L2 On-board Cache : 2MB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing Computer Platform Compliance : Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Mainboard : Dell 0FF049 BIOS : Dell A01 03/17/2006 Bus(es) : ISA X-Bus PCI PCIe IMB PCMCIA USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBus Multi-Processor (MP) Support : No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (APIC) : Yes Total Memory : 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM Chipset Model : Dell 955XM/945GM/PM/GMS/940GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller Front Side Bus Speed : 4x 333MHz (1.33GHz) Total Memory : 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM Shared Memory : 8MB Memory Bus Speed : 2x 666MHz (1.33GHz) Storage Devices FUJITSU MHV2080BH (78.5GB, SATA150, 2.5", 5400rpm, NCQ, 8MB Cache) : 73GB (C:) SanDisk Cruzer Micro 1GB (USB) : 977MB (E:) _NEC DVD+/-RW ND-6650A (ATA33, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) : N/A (D:) Logical Storage Devices Hard Disk (C:) : 73GB (NTFS) @ FUJITSU MHV2080BH (78.5GB, SATA150, 2.5", 5400rpm, NCQ, 8MB Cache) Optical Drive (D:) : N/A @ _NEC DVD+/-RW ND-6650A (ATA33, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) Removable Drive (E:) : 976MB (FAT) @ SanDisk Cruzer Micro 1GB (USB) Peripherals LPC Hub Controller 1 : Dell 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller LPC Legacy Controller 1 : SMSC FDC37N769 Audio Device : Dell 82801G (ICH7) High Definition Audio Audio Codec : Sigmatel 9200 HD Audio Codec Disk Controller : Dell 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M) Serial ATA Storage Controller USB Controller 1 : Dell 82801G (ICH7) USB Universal Host Controller USB Controller 2 : Dell 82801G (ICH7) USB Universal Host Controller USB Controller 3 : Dell 82801G (ICH7) USB Universal Host Controller USB Controller 4 : Dell 82801G (ICH7) USB Universal Host Controller USB Controller 5 : Dell 82801G (ICH7) USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : Dell R5C832 IEEE-1394 Controller SMBus/i2c Controller 1 : Intel 801xx/63xx SMBus Printers and Faxes Printer : Adobe PDF Converter (4000x4000, Colour) Network Services Network Adapter : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport Network Adapter : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport (Ethernet, 54Mbps) Wireless Adapter 1 : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport (802.11g (ERP), TKIP, 54Mbps) Power Management Mains (AC) Line Status : Off-Line Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 3) Platform Compliance : x86

Re: PLugin issues
Where do you record your Audio to?
A second fast hard drive is essential. (Sorry, saw the red print a little late!) I guess putting 4 GB of Ram could help a little. With PT8 your CPU should get another performance hit. By the way which interface do you use and which error messages do you get?

Re: PLugin issues
Right, what Digi interface are you using? Is it Firewire? What version of Waves and Auto Tune?

Re: PLugin issues
I have the mbox2
I use version 7 of waves and it's autotune evo I'll have to check a little later which error message it is. when you say it would get a performance hit, is that the good kind like a homerun hit or is it like a hit in the face, kind of hit?

Re: PLugin issues
I'm not too fond of a hit in the face.
so I'm better off with 7.3.1 in this case?

Re: PLugin issues
Yes, if you feel underpowered now, you will hate the way you feel in PT8 with that same computer.
