Default digital noise

This past weekend, I imported some WAV files from my Mackie MDR and ended up hearing some digital noise on some of the tracks. It only lasts a second and appears at random places on several of the tracks. I am using a PowerMac G5 dual processor (2.0GHz) and ProTools 7.1. I imported from an external Firewire drive that can be moved between the Mackie unit and my home studio.

Should I move the WAV files to the Audio drive on my PowerMac first before importing via ProTools?

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks,

Paul

To clarify, the digital noise is a very short high pitched squeal. On a stereo track, it is sometimes there only on the left or right and sometimes both but very random.

is it a sine wave or something? Could you maybe post a brief clip?

When you import, tell Pro Tools to make a new copy of it.

don't think it is a sine wave. When looking at the waveform of the track, you just see a horizontal rectangular bar for the time it is there.

I'll try your suggestion.
